Abstract:

Family photographs of various generations of Proehl, Lacy and Koenig families of California, Nevada, Arizona and Germany. Marie Proehl Lacy photograph (v.1) album contains chiefly personal snapshots depicting Marie, her husband Herbert J. Lacy, family, friends, leisure activities, primarily in San Francisco and elsewhere in the Bay Area; a few depicting the Lacy house on Ulloa St. Other photograph album (v.2) bears uncertain relationship to vol. 1, extensively depicts Margaret Sullivan and various students and activities at Starr King School and Paul Revere School; scenes of Yosemite Valley and U.C. Berkeley's Greek Theatre; includes many personal snapshots, some of them likely depicting Marie and Herbert Lacy and other Lacy, Proehl and Koenig family members, among others. Also includes numerous 19th century cabinet card and carte de visite studio portraits (PIC box 1) depicting, presumably, Proehl and Koenig family members of San Francisco, Virginia City, Phoenix, Germany and elsewhere.

Per U.S. Census and other government records, Marie Proehl Lacy was born in Germany in 1896 (descending from Proehl and Koenig families) and died in San Francisco in 1956; married Herbert J. Lacy of Arizona (1893-1932) who was perhaps a fireman in San Francisco, and was brother of William E. Lacy.
Per affixed caption in vol. 2, Margaret Sullivan was from Yosemite, served as principal at Starr King elementary school (San Francisco) and also worked at Paul Revere School (also S.F.) ca. 1910s-1920s.
